Outstanding Nursery Raises Money
for Felicity Fund

Staff and parents of The Haven 2000 Nursery in Bedford recently gave up their free times to support a charity close to their hearts in a sponsored 10 mile walk around Grafham Water. They raised money for the Felicity Fund, a charity set up by Felicity’s mother, Vivien Barker, who manages the Haven 2000 Nursery with her sister-in-law, Maria Riley.

The nursery was recently judged by OFSTED to be Outstanding in every area. “I had a very difficult pregnancy,” says Vivien, “and when Felicity was born by emergency section at 29 weeks she had so many problems we had to face the fact that she might not survive. Felicity relied on tubes for breathing, she had repeated blood transfusions and an open duct in her heart. The quality of care at Bedford Hospital was excellent. The staff there not only treated Felicity but took time to care for my husband and my two other children. When you see her at nursery now it’s hard to believe how poorly she was. I was shocked to find that in the few weeks we were at Bedford hospital it cost £30,000 just to care for Felicity and she was just one of many neonatal babies. So I stated the Felicity Fun soon after she was well to raise money to buy the Neo Natal Unit a Brain and Heart Scanner. The generosity of local people has been overwhelming and the fund has raised over £6,000 so far. about half of what we need.”
